Redakai: Conquer the Kairu, the new flagship series coproduced by Marathon Media and Spin Master Ltd. continues its international conquest. Following Cartoon Network US, Canada’s YTV and French channels Gulli and Canal J have announced plans to broadcast the series in the second half of this year for YTV and Canal J, and early 2012 for Gulli.
Redakai: Conquer the Kairu features Ky, a 15-year-old boy and student of the ancient martial arts, who embarks on an incredible quest to find the Kairu, a mystical energy with incredible powers and the catalyst for all forms of life in the universe.
Ky and his friends, Maya and Boomer, are confronted by personal challenges and teenage extraterrestrials who do everything they can to halt them in their quest for the Kairu and prevent them being the first to harness this precious energy. Ky hopes to one day become the greatest Kairu warrior of them all, a Redakai.
The series is coproduced by two major players in the international youth programming market: Studio Marathon Media in Paris, creator of the global hit shows Totally Spies, Gormiti, and Rekkit Rabbit and Spin Master Ltd, behind the action show phenomenon Bakugan Battle Brawlers.
With its unrivalled expertise in kid’s entertainment, Spin Master is planning to release a complete range of games, trading cards and toys linked to the series and based on totally innovative technology.
“After Cartoon Network US, we are delighted to partner once again with Gulli, Canal J and YTV – with whom we have already enjoyed some major successes – this time with Redakai, a ground-breaking adventure series,” said Vincent Chalvon Demersay and David Michel, co-principals of Marathon Media.
“Spin Master is thrilled to have the strength and support of YTV behind the launch of Redakai in Canada,” explains Jennifer Dodge, Executive Producer at Spin Master Entertainment. “They will be the perfect strategic complement to the efforts of our partners Gulli and Canal J in France and Cartoon Network in the US.”
The first visuals were unveiled last month in New York at the Toy Fair and the Kidscreen Summit. The series will be fully launched on the international marketplace at MIPTV in April.
The series’ international TV and video sales will be handled by Zodiak Kids. Zodiak Kids – Marathon Media is handling the worldwide licensing and merchandising rights excluding North America, where Cartoon Network Enterprises is the exclusive agent.
